St. Louis barbecue sauce is a thinner, tangier version of its Kansas City cousin.


  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1⁄2 cup water
  • 1⁄3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1⁄3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 Tbsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1⁄2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1⁄4 tsp salt


1Combine ingredients in a bowl. 

2Allow to sit for at least 30 minutes before using. 

3In a saucepan, heat olive oil.

4Add garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant.

5Add remaining ingredients and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.

6Allow to cool before applying to meat.
